A Study on Specificity of Cancer Incidence in Daegu-Kyungbuk Area(3)

Abstract
In 1960 s. the primary cause of death was infectious disease, in next decade, it was changed to cerebrovascular disease. But neoplasm is the first cause of death in recent years. It seemed to expected situation, because Korea achieved economical development and nationwide medical insurance proceeded since 1989. So many epidemiological studies on cancer have been reported. However, most of them were performed by means of statistical analyses that were based on biopsy data or histological examinations. We had reported previously that valuable results could be obtained from the data of surgically treated cancer patients.
In previous paper, we had reported that female cases in Daegu-Kyungbuk area were different from other report with respect to age distribution and incidence frequency. Now we used 3,264 of female cases and 1,780 of male cases. 5044 cases during 1987-1991 were classified in terms of age, sex and tumor site and statistically analyzed with SAS package. The most prevalent male tumor was stomach, and in female, breast, uterine cervical, ovarian tumor were prevalent.
Obtained results were same as previous study on the whole except that uterine cervical cancer decreased at 1989 and ovarian tumor increased at that calendar year. The reason could not be identified. But we suggest that diagnostic techniques are more developed and notification on early discover to disease are more common to women may be one of major reason. The most patients of breast and ovarian cancer were aged in 20¢¥ s.30¢¥ s. These results indicate that consecutive survey is inevitable subject in Daegu Kyungbuk area.
